About Me

Parran L. Foster III graduated from Johnson C. Smith University with a B.S. in Biology and went on to enter an accelerated doctoral program at Temple University during which he taught biology and science in Camden, N.J.  In August of 1974, he left Temple and joined Marion Laboratories as the first black pharmaceutical sales representative in eastern N.C.  He held various positions in sales and R&D over the next 18 years in N.C and Washington, D.C. before leaving in 1993 to found Phoenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the first minority owned pharmaceutical sales and marketing company in the U.S.  in 1996 he established the Phoenix Scholarship Foundation which generated over $1,080,000 in scholarships for minority students from his profits. Phoenix enjoyed a successful partnership with Parke-Davis, Warner Lambert until the takeover of P-D by Pfizer in 2002.

Phoenix went on to partner with both Schwarz Pharma and Reliant Pharmaceuticals over the next few years.  In 2006, Parran then began working on Akcess, a new and innovative marketing program.  This on-line scheduling suite promises control of the flow of medical representatives into physician’s offices while generating major resources for community based charities.

Parran was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and was raised in the beautiful mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He has three daughters and is married to his wife Angela.  

He has been active as a non-physician member of the Association of Black Cardiologists, (ABC), the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks, (ISHIB), and the National Medical Association, (NMA).  He served on the Women’s Health Committee of the National Kidney Foundation and the Howard University Community Health Taskforce. 

Parran has served on the Board of Trustees of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., since 2000 and as board chair from 2005 until 2013. He is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and he was listed as an honored professional in several editions of the National Directory of Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals.
